HOW CAN I LEARN A SOCIAL DANCE BY MYSELF?
One of the most valuable ways to prepare for social dancing is to build strong solo technique. I believe dancers benefit from training as many movement pathways as possible before bringing them into partner work.
Efficient Follow uses solo exercises to build strength, proficiency and efficiency of movement, making this series especially well suited to online learning. The goal is not to memorize Brazilian Zouk patterns. The goal is to prepare your body to move safely—and prepare your mind to recognize and accurately execute movement within those patterns.
IS THIS HELPFUL FOR LEADS?
Yes, absolutely!
A lead is an invitation to movement. The more you understand the mechanics of the follow’s movement, the more precise, comfortable and creative your lead can become. You’ll also build strength, body awareness and empathy for your partner’s experience.
PREREQUISITE
For the safety of your spine and the best learning experience, I recommend completing Level I before beginning Level II—but it is not required.
